…and we’re travelling with more time than budget…
Early 2017 we made the decision to quit our jobs in September 2018 and start a year of wandering the South American continent. Somewhere South is our spot in the www-universe telling that tale.
Hannes has always been up for an adventure. This already dates back to the long summers camping with his family in Greece: snorkeling for hours straight as a six-year-old, daydreaming about camping in the Meteora Mountains while driving past or sneaking off to climb the nearest hilltop at 35 ºC. He couldn’t be happier when at the age of 18 he was finally allowed to pack his backpack and hitchhike solo around the Scottisch Highlands in the summer of 2010. Norway and Southeast Asia soon followed, accompanied by friends this time.
It was around this period that we decided to check our travelling compatibility. After all we had been in a relationship for more than 2 years already. So far, however, Stefanie had only had exposure to a very different kind of holidays. And our student budget didn’t really allow for luxurious 5-star-hotels in the Carribean. Above all, she might have been a bit bored with swim-eat-sleep-repeat.
Compatible we were and so our list of travelled destinations grew slowly over the years:
As we travelled, we discovered that we really like cities and love local food and drinks. But we get really excited when we’re out in the open. Dalmatian hilltops, Tibetan highlands, Normandy cliffs, … those are memories that remain. And we wanted more of that. Loads more. So we haven’t been travelling lately to save up for a big trip.
And now we have a budget. We have even more time. We don’t know where we’ll go or for how long. We just know it’ll be Somewhere South…
